Do I need to describe the agony I went through from 7 to 11th of Sept. Perhaps not. Almost all of us have similar and worse stories to share. We were all caged in the 3rd storey of our house. The fear of death deep in the night, my attempts at humour telling my wife that we might be floating in Muzafarabad and her stoic poise will be difficult to erase. The boat that was brought by Colonel Fotedar of Burbarshah at the persistent intervention of my family members over a period of two days took us out on the 11th. There was no favour. Me and my wife were not given any special treatment and thats what I liked about this operation. Priority was given on need basis. Along with us he rescued two stranded families of our immediate neighbors who had been on the rooftop. The boat hardly had the capacity of carrying 13 people, but the colonel managed to carry 26. Colonel Fotedaar looked at me and said, “Don’t worry we Kashmiris know how to row boats, dont we?” His sense of humor, courage and bravado ensured we reached safety. My family, my facebook friends and all well wishers were concerned about me.
