“Do not forget to entertain strangers,” the book of Hebrews - TopicsExpress

“Do not forget to entertain strangers,” the book of Hebrews reminds us. “For by doing so some have unwittingly entertained angels”....a simple message of tolerance, compassion, and generosity. Today, I bought a $50 gift card to support a friends new #CajunintheCity restaurant opening in Chelsea. I had in mind to give it as a gift to a coworker -- our IT systems admin -- a soft-spoken Afro-Caribbean Creole from St Lucia, who just started working with us last month, and who has helped me out in many a pinch. George was grateful, as he has two young kids, and his birthday is in April, when Mardi Gras season is upon us, and the gift could feed the family. My gesture delighted chef KC, who comped me a $25 gift card were I to come back. His Brooklyn help offered me free samples of fresh beignets, which made me an instant hit at the office, from Jewish to WASP. Later, through some strange cosmic twist, a friend invited me to a last-minute dinner and entertainment in Koreatown, which became a lavish $300 affair -- unexpectedly picking up the entire tab. How $50 turned into $300 (or more, not counting goodwill at work) in the span of 12 hours must be the work of an angel....feeling so blessed! Travis Rapp Orlando Brown
