Do you feel called by God to minister as a Chaplain in your community? The Trauma Support SA Chaplaincy Service sees its ministry as one of compassion and sensitivity, taking place in many different ways including: • Visiting the sick, • Attending to the dying, • Comforting the bereaved, • Assisting those who are struggling with or facing difficulties of any kind, • Offering crisis intervention and trauma support in the community. Duties of a TSSA Chaplain • To offer support to members of the community in times of crisis, trauma and emotional bereavement. • To assist with suicide negotiations when requested and necessary. • To work alongside all organizations in the crisis intervention field, trauma as well as the various private and government agencies inclusive of Emergency Medical Services, Hospitals, Security Companies and the different Law enforcement agencies in our community. • To minister to the bereaved and to visit the sick. • To share the Gospel of Jesus Christ in word, action deed and attitude to those members of the community who are receptive. • To minister the word and sacraments in whichever setting when requested to do so as allowed by the Chaplains Church Leadership Criteria for a Chaplain- A Christian who: • Is a member of a locally recognized church • Is in good standing in his/her congregation • Has a heart for people and a desire to serve and is teachable • Is recommended by their oversight / eldership • The prospective applicant would be willing to undergo orientation, training, follow the probationary period of four to six months and attend various training courses from time to time as offered and as available. • The prospective applicant would follow the norms and procedures as set out by the constitution and code of ethics of the Trauma Support SA. Commitment need from prospective Chaplain: • R250.00 for the Chaplaincy Training course – 6 evenings of theory • Availability for ride alongs and in-service training on scenes and at hospitals • Cost of uniform • Willingness to be rostered as a VOLUNTEER Chaplain in your area. • Own Vehicle / Transportation to respond to call-outs.
