Typhoon Haiyan Information for U.S. Citizens Last Updated: November 27, 2013 Consular officials from U.S. Embassy Manila are checking on the welfare of U.S. citizens who have enrolled with the embassy or whose loved ones have contacted us. Check the Embassy website for up to date information. U.S. citizens should be aware of reports of looting and potential acts of violence in the areas hardest hit by the storm. Philippine authorities are taking steps to restore security in those areas. We do, however, advise U.S. citizens to take their own security precautions, shelter in place if necessary, and to monitor local media for the most up to date information regarding crime and security in the affected areas.
