Do you have ONE FOCUS? Our one focus on this drill is to keep our body perfectly still while we pitch. To stay in our legs, keep our core tight, body still & balanced, all while we go through a solid/strong, fast arm circle. I tell them be a statue, be still with your body, and explode and whip your arm Im teaching them body control, & body awareness, all while working on their pitching skill and strength. If you notice they arent perfect. Their bodies and feet move a little. Also a few other things that have nothing to do with what were working on, like the arm circle at their finish and release, arent perfect. With all this said, one thing I have learned as a pitcher & a coach, you must pick ONE FOCUS. There are so many things we can be thinking about during our pitch. With every pitch, every drill when you are training do you pick ONE thing to focus on? You should! If you notice they didnt accomplish a solid balanced body which was our only goal on this drill, I think it was about 15 pitches later that the group in this video finally got their bodies to stay still and under control (I missed it with the camera) I was so proud of them when they got it! I didnt expect them to get in on the very first try. All too often I see pitchers trying to do a million changes all at once, pick ONE thing at a time. Work on it, work on it, achieve it, then move on. Parents, coaches, I encourage you to remind your girls of this. Set yourself up for success, pick ONE thing at a time to strive for.
