Do you love me more than all those are here? Peter was asked this question in the presence of all other disciples. Love for God cannot be private and subjective. Love for God is objective. It is comparable to love for neighbour, but infinitely greater. Your love for God has to exceed any love for creature. Love for God is the foundation of love for his creation. Until your love for God is perfected, you will always have love-issues with fellow-man( spouse,parent, child,sibling or neighbour). Any person you esteem above God become an idol. God does not tolerate idols and idolators. Why should you expose creation to divine wrath by esteeming it above the Creator? It is important to have very important things and people you esteem second only to God. Love for God must always be more. Love is learned from another lover. God is love.God is the Lover! Now, honestly complete this sentence: I love God more than.....(List you most highly prized person or thing)! For example, I love God more than life. Remember, those whose love for God is not complete will always be envious of your love for God! Selah!
