Here is a helpful list of ideas to get the gears turning! • Energy efficient lighting-Pick a building to convert to energy efficient lights • Farm to College-Help support local farms and get healthier foods in UAA • Solar panels-Lower UAA’s energy use • Wind turbine-An effective way to create energy • Car pooling project • Vegetable Shuttle Bus-Convert a shuttle into a diesel engine that uses old vegetable oil from Lucy Cuddy • How to be Thrifty-Bring key note speakers to UAA on how to be a thrifty college student • Clothing Swap-Get an event funded for a campus wide clothing swap • Green House-UAA has two green houses, neither are used for food. One is used for storage for the Engineering building; perhaps this could be utilized better? • Green products-Put together a project that would fund UAA buying green products, such as post-consumer office supplies/school supplies, ecofriendly cleaning supplies, grassroots clothing etc. • Green Building-Either receive funding to build a completely new building that is 100% Green or convert an existing building into a green building. • Water Bottle Project-Help reduce or eliminate the use of plastic bottles on campus, glass water bottles/stainless steel/BPA free plastic Nalgene or camelback. • Environmental/Sustainable Lecture Series-Bring speakers from different Universities, organizations to speak to students about environmental issues and the impacts of being environmentally aware. The opportunities are endless on how you can contribute making UAA a more Green campus.
