Does God Hear Us? It seems that every day we cry out to God to - TopicsExpress

Does God Hear Us? It seems that every day we cry out to God to save us from danger, or illness, from discomfort or fear. And sometimes, it seems He does not hear us. We feel as though we are alone in our suffering. Do we dare think that He would not understand our pain? Or care about it? David said, “In the day of my trouble, I will call to You, for You will answer me.” (Psalm 86:7). Did David know something we don’t know? He read the same scriptures we read. So, we repeatedly cry out to Him for mercy, and it appears He does not answer. We want Him to rescue us from our suffering, from our fears, from hurtful relationships, from illnesses. And we just can’t understand His silence. But then this plea comes to my mind… “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? Why do You hide Your face from Me?” (Matthew 27:46). And “Why are You so far from rescuing Me, so far from the words of My groaning? Oh, My God, I cry out by day but You do not answer ~ by night, and am not silent.” (Psalm 22:1-2). There is much desperation in those words. They are the very words of Jesus, our Lord. He cried out to His Father in His darkest hour. God heard His prayers, but did nothing. Jesus endured many troubles deep in His soul. He was not only forsaken by His heavenly Father, “He was despised and forsaken among men, a Man of sorrows and familiar with suffering.” (Isaiah 53:3). He humbled Himself to the point of death on a cross, and God crushed Him and put Him in the deepest darkest depths of the pit. He was burdened with every sin of every man ~ and He suffered sin’s terrors for our sake. He didn’t deserve this. In the midst of His suffering, His faith called on His Father. All His suffering was necessary to show God’s great mercy, even at the gates of hell. More than anyone, Jesus understands our pain and suffering. We celebrate His victory over death, and all who saw Him saw the glory of God. The Father was satisfied at the deep and profound anguish in His holy soul, and through this sacrifice, we are delivered from the domain of darkness. We will reign with Him in heaven! God does indeed hear our cries for mercy. Let us remember that His timing is perfect ~ His ways are not our ways, but “His way is perfect.” (Ps. 18:30). We may suffer for a little while, but our suffering is not in vain, it is never wasted. His glory will be seen in us if we stand firm and remain faithful. God promised, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5). He does hear our prayers, but His answer will not come until it is the perfect time. Thank You, Lord, that our lives are in Your hands, and we can trust You to know and understand our pain. Help us as we wait, to remain faithful, to see Your glory in our seemingly dire situation. Amen. From my heart, Jeanne (Excerpted from Morning Celebrations-todays devotional) Available at Amazon
