The design world is highly trained in principles of architecture, engineering, landscaping, space planning, drainage, energy consumption, finished and other building specific disciplines. However, the study of the criminal mind and how they will violate the safety of that building is usually not part of the equation. A security consultant is an important part of the creative design process. But how do you know when you have a credible security expert? First, security equipment/technology representatives have one goal - selling their equipment. They are loyal to their product-not you. Does your security consultant have a formal university degree in criminal justices? Do they offer years of public safety experience and have an intimate knowledge of criminal behavior? Are they licensed and insured? Do they have verifiable references? Always ask this question - can you prove that you know what you are doing?
