Does anyone besides myself remember singing this old chorus? “ Come unto me, and I will give you rest, take my yoke upon you, hear me and be blest. For I am meek and lowly, and my burdens light. Come my yoke is easy and my burdens light.” It just thrills my heart when I am studying Gods word, and I find scripture that has had a tune added to it. Now I knew of course that Jesus had said come unto me, and I knew the chorus, but this morning during my study time I once again came across the very words of Jesus in (Matt 11:28-30) “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” There is a reason so many of the chorus’s we used to sing in church are so closely written to the Word. One reason was they were meant to help us remember Jesus, every day of our lives. Too give us peace during the hard times, and help us find our way to the feet of Jesus no matter what the situation. It is so easy to remember a song, and sing it when we are happy and thankful, but if we can sing of the wonders of Jesus when we are having a trial, and we feel low, well then we will bring the savior right into our situation, and feel his presence right in our time of need. Learn to sing those scriptures that lift up your soul, it does not matter if it isn’t the best of tune’s, it only matters that it will help you recall all that Jesus has done for you, and every promise we are given in the Word of God. That makes me think of another old song, “Every promise in the book is mine, every chapter every verse every line, I am living in his Love Devine, every promise in the book is mine.” Here again I do not know if every word in that song is right, but those are the words that lift my heart and help me to touch the hem of His garment. “O what a savior, O hallelujah, his side was driven for even me, his hand were nail scarred,” that all I can remember right, but hallelujah I am up lifted in my spirit after just writing the words down, O hallelujah what a savior.
