Does being harsh on asylum seekers work in favour of the Liberal - TopicsExpress

Does being harsh on asylum seekers work in favour of the Liberal Government? No! Opposing the general beliefs, these harsh policies have not been successful in the past. -The first full year after TPVs were introduced, in 2000, there were 2,939 arrivals. -In 2001 when the policy was at full strength arrivals rose to more than 5,000 (Refugee Council of Australia, 2011). -Denying families to reunite means more women and children get on boasts as an attempt to be reunited. -In 2001 353 people drowned while traveling to Australia. Most of the 288 women and children were family members of TPV holders already in Australia (Telegraph, 2001). Temporary Protection Visa are an attempted punishment that do not stop arrivals or deaths at sea.
