Does listening to an audiobook count as reading? My mom says no. I - TopicsExpress

Does listening to an audiobook count as reading? My mom says no. I likewise tend to think the answer is no. But why does it matter whether the words on a page and then entering my brain come from my own (internal or spoken) voice, or anothers? Why does it matter whether the reading happens from ears or eyeballs? Blind people can read with their fingers. When I was a little girl, a teacher would read aloud to the class. The words she spoke entered my brain just as much as her own. What is your opinion? Im simply curious, only because I really do like to be read to (as opposed to my dear mom, who absolutely does not), and Ive recently discovered the joys of Audible, which has an astounding assortment of audiobooks available. But I dont know if I can say, Ive read Outlander when my eyeballs were staring at my knitting project, while my ears were doing the reading.
