Dont Mess Up Your Good Name Matthew 27:3-4 – Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that he had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” And they said, “What is that to us? You see to it!” Luke 22:1-6 – Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called Passover. And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might kill Him, for they feared the people. Then Satan entered Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was numbered among the twelve. So he went his way and conferred with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray Him to them. And they were glad, and agreed to give him money. So he promised and sought opportunity to betray him to the in the absence of the multitude. Yesterday, Christians around the world observed the resurrection of Jesus on the third day after His sacrificial crucifixion on Calvary. We know that Jesus was betrayed by one of His own disciples and even knew He would be betrayed. There is “nothing” you can hide from Jesus (let that marinade). Judas Iscariot would be infamously known as “Judas the Betrayer” for his deed against the Savior. When Judas betrayed Jesus, he messed up a good name. Here is something to think about; of all the disciples, it is extremely rare to come across a male who is name Judas. Peter denied Jesus but we name our sons Peter today. Thomas doubted Jesus but we name our sons Thomas today. When we hear the name Judas, we immediately associate it with the betrayal of Jesus. If you were to research the meaning of the name Judas, you will come across definitions such as “praised”, “the praised one” or “God is praised”. Can you imagine having a name that means “the praised one” or “God is praised”? I would contend that the name given at birth speaks things into and over the life of the baby which is why it is important to assign a name with a positive meaning; speak life into the new life through his name (let that marinade). Judas had an awesome name but through one action, his name was ruined. Sometimes all it takes is just one time to mess up what you have built up (let that marinade). Judas was influenced by the enemy to betray Jesus. The scripture clearly states that Satan entered Judas. This is just another example as to why it is important guard our mind, our hearts and our spirits daily through prayer, praise and worship. We can’t put on the armor of God when “we” desire but put it on EVERY day and keep it on! The enemy never sleeps, don’t take smoke breaks or vacation so we can’t do the same from the word (really let that marinate). I will put this out there too. Be mindful of your associations. The enemy does not have a problem of using those who are close to you to get into you to influence you and cause you to mess up your good name. In the movie “What’s Love Got to Do with It”, the judge asked Tina Turner if she was sure about giving up everything and she said, “Except my name. I’ll give up all that other stuff, but only if I get to keep my name. I’ve worked too hard for it, your honor.” I believe “YOU” have worked too hard to build up “YOUR” good name. Don’t be influenced by the enemy to do something out of character. Don’t be influenced by the enemy to do something that could ruin your legacy. Don’t be influenced by the enemy to do something that will cause others to remember you in a negative way, if they even remember you at all. Protect the very name that was given to you and through God, make it a great name! Don’t mess it up!
