Dont Try This At Home - Had real fun on a short, but intense simulated high-altitude VO2 boosting workout today using ancient breath-holding techniques. In simplest terms, going at a light to moderate pace Id hold my breath for ten seconds or longer, then recover for fifty, always and only breathing through my nose. Then Id repeat for 20 minutes. This workout has some amazing benefits. It naturally boosting EPO levels in the body, increasing red blood cell count (the spleen releases up to 8% of cells on reserve) and teaching the body how to better buffer CO2 (a huge measure and component of someones fitness). The workouts a huge challenge and a bit addictive as well. Its amazing how long ten seconds can be when you want to take a breath!
