Radicalization and fundamentalism are/have been statistically linked to demographics. The higher the demographic penetration the higher the statistical representation of fundamentalists. Heres how it works: Like an infection that gets out of control, until a contagion reaches a certain level our native systems are capable of controlling it. Once we exceed the level at which we can control harmful vectors the growth rate increases because of a lack of resistance. The situation is quite different from population expansion models where growth rates are dependant on reproduction rates and available resources which tend to have a declining fertility rate as the population expands. The situation here is one where the growth rate increases with increased population size because the increased population crowds out the growth restricting factors.
