Dont know really where to start with this one as its a complicated one! In 1940 Rover Motors, Cessnock acquired former D.R.T&T Leyland TD1 m/o.1006 (#6) and ran it (rego.& fleet # unknown) until it had an accident and was burnt out as a result in 1941-2. Meanwhile D.R.T&T AEC Regent 0661: m/o.1189 (#189) had overturned at Cremorne on 28/6/40. The damaged body was resold to Rover in 1941 and placed onto the chassis of the burnt out TD1 becoming fleet #17 and being registered as MO.702. Now it gets interesting. Rover also bought the 2nd m/o.1189. Ive posted an official Government Archives photo of the 2nd 1189 and also one of the bus after sale to Rover. It became fleet #3 and was registered as MO.963 and is shown in the photo by Vic Solomons as deregistered in 1959. It is believed that then the 2nd former 1189 was rebodied as a single decker by Rover becoming fleet #2 but retaining its MO.963 plate. Thanks goes to David Wilson for unravelling this mystery of the 2 1189s!
