Dont know what happened to my post today (could be the old fart using the computer..LOL!!!) I remember a post regarding touring overseas or touring Oz because there is so much to see here, so here is a poem I wrote about a job I did from Brissy to Sydney...:-) A Bloke I Once Met When I was highway driving quite some time ago and moving furniture with truck and pig in tow, I had to take a load direct from Brisbane’s store and unload at a house on Sydney’s great North Shore. The owner seemed quite nice, appeared to be true blue and when the work was done, he offered me a brew. I asked him why his gear had been stored for so long, he told me he’d completed working in Hong Kong. He’d lived throughout the world, though he was Brisbane born and told me all about Mauritius to Cape Horn. He spoke of golden sands while living in the States, and London’s vast Hyde park where people held debates. I was surprised this educated Aussie bloke, who knew about the world (and some bad foreign joke) had never heard or been to visit Dunedoo or watched a purple sunset out near old Paroo. I asked him if he’d seen the dog at Gundagai or if our city bars matched those there in Shanghai. And how the monsoon rains that fall in Bangalore compare to our far north when summer rains would pour. He said he lived in Russia, skied in their soft snow and recollects when skating down in Kosovo. But have you seen the sunrise breaking over Perth, or viewed a Willy-Willy turn and stir the earth. And have you seen the rain, fall out at Uluru then later flowers sprout, in purple, white or blue and also where some pinks, grow from the desert sand the landscape comes alive, on what was barren land. I said I had to go and thanked him for the drink and think I’d said enough, enough to make him think. I know each country in its own way is unique that have their special sights or something quite mystique. Now I don’t really mind if Aussies live elsewhere and visit all the sights while they are over there. For me I’ll stay right here, there’s just so much to see, when touring in the bush or living by the sea. David J Delaney ©
