Double blow for No as cracks appear Fri, 21/03/2014 - 11:21 Reports in today’s Herald of a Senior Whitehall source criticising the negativity of the No campaign and a Welsh Tory MP speaking out against George Osborne’s currency threat have been highlighted by the SNP. George Osborne’s threat to rule out a Sterling Area was described as …an empty step for the rest of the UK to decide that Scotland should not be allowed to use the pound because an independent Scotland, should one exist, would be the second largest market for rUK exports by Guto Bebb, the Conservative MP for Aberconwy. The UK Government’s tactics were further criticised by a Senior Whitehall source who said: … There is also a feeling here that there has been too much emphasis on the negative and not enough on the positive…” Stewart Hosie MP said: “This is a major embarrassment to Project Fear - even the Tories own MPs know that George Osbornes currency threats are nothing but bluff and bluster and an attempt to bully and scare the people of Scotland, but it’s not working as polls move towards Yes. After a Yes vote, the UK Government will put aside its scaremongering campaign rhetoric and negotiate a currency union in the best interests of people and businesses north and south of the border.” Angus Robertson MP added: “The No campaign has become grindingly negative and downbeat about Scotland. They seem incapable of communicating anything positive and dont even have a common devolution plan.
