Dr. Ben Carson is rising in popularity with supporters – to the extent that thousands are petitioning for him to run for President! In a recent straw poll for the probable Presidential challengers in 2016, Senator Ted Cruz was voted most likely, with Dr. Carson in line as a very close second. Supporters who gathered for Carson’s recent book signing at Barnes & Noble in Brentwood, TN, held signs with slogans such as “The Doctor is in the White House 2016,” while chanting, “Run, Ben, Run!” Amidst the crowd was Sharon Wingo of Goodlettsville, who said, “I would like to see someone who has not been corrupted by the system.” Dr. Carson is known for speaking openly about his opposition to President Obama and his pet project, Obamacare, calling Obama “unfit for office.” As a recent victim of Obama’s IRS, he believes Obama to be using the IRS as his modern-day “Gestapo.” And that’s just a glimpse at the wide variety of politically-related subjects he has addressed. Everything Dr. Carson has to say is far from being politically correct. Yet, perhaps he has found favor in the eyes of his fans because they find his honesty refreshing, and it is likely why many are encouraging him to run in the 2016 election. “I don’t wanna do it,” said Dr. Carson in an interview on Hannity – a show on the Fox News network. “But if we’re left in a situation where there’s not a lot of enthusiasm for anybody else, I would never turn my back on my fellow citizens.” The doctor rose to fame after becoming the first to successfully separate conjoined twins joined at the head. His intelligence and personable nature are certainly attractive qualities for a political candidate, and he would undoubtedly have little trouble finding supporters should he choose to run for office. “The only reason I haven’t shut up is because in Romans 8 it says, ‘If God be for you, who can be against you?’ And I believe in that protection that God gives you,” Carson declared. His supporters agree that Dr. Carson has some great ideas, and think they should be heard and considered all the same. As we draw closer to the presidential election, it will be interesting to see what his final decision will be on the matter. To run or not to run?
