Dr M optimistic of BN victory in Sungai Limau by-election: LANGKAWI, Oct 1 — Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is optimistic of a Barisan Nasional (BN) victory in the Sungai Limau state by-election in Kedah although PAS had won the seat in the past five general elections. He said PAS had retained the seat since 1995 due to the personality of former Kedah Menteri Besar Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak. Azizan died on Sept 26, paving the way for the by-election. The Election Commission is to set the dates for nomination and polling on Thursday. “Tan Sri Azizan did not have to campaign to win. The voters supported him for his personality, not the party. The people may want a change now,” Dr Mahathir told reporters after opening the Ombak Villa Hotel of MK Land Holdings Berhad, here, last night. Dr Mahathir said the BN could bring more intensive development to the constituency if it won the by-election. He said the BN must endear itself to the people, find out their problems and resolve them.
