Dr. Maya Angelou, our beloved and esteemed elder, our wordweaver, - TopicsExpress

Dr. Maya Angelou, our beloved and esteemed elder, our wordweaver, has transitioned and begun her peregrination to the community of ancestors. She gave us the very best of herself for as long as she could. She did it with grace, strength, class, dignity and integrity. She did it for love and with love. She earned this rest. The community of ancestors just got themselves one helluva poet, now she and Amiri Baraka can once again share dances and ideas. For us, here in the land of the living, we have another challenge. We must become a people who when confronted with the loss of a profound leader or esteemed elder, mourn the loss, express our love, appreciation and gratitude for their service and sacrifice, get up off the mat and then in a collective voice say simply, but forcefully: NEXT UP. When we get to the point when we say NEXT UP and no one or two people step forward to carry the weight for thousands, but thousands of us step forward to carry the weight of millions, then we will be truly ready to complete our liberation struggle. Imagine the image of someone saying NEXT UP and thousands of Black people everywhere rushing to step forward, simultaneously, to carry the torch. Thats more than a dream, for courageous dreamers that do, its a possibility. Rest In Power Mama Angelou.
