Dr. Owusu-Ansah Agyapong: Our beloved professor, friend, mentor and role model, went to be with the LORD on Monday, August 25, 2014. Dr. Agyapong was a native of Ghana and he received his Ph.D. from Florida State University (FSU) in 1984. He joined the FAMU faculty in 1985 and served as chair of the Criminal Justice Department for several terms. Dr. Agyapong was a dedicated and visionary professor, who implemented many programs to facilitate student development. He was a tireless advocate for education and he was the epitome of “Excellence Without Excuse”. On the morning of January 24, 2011, while in route to teach his classes at FAMU, Dr. Agyapong was injured in a horrific car crash. He sustained a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed. After enduring extensive rehabilitation at the Shepard Center in Atlanta, Georgia, he returned to the classroom in 2012 to do what he loved doing– EDUCATING AND MOTIVATING HIS STUDENTS. Despite being confined to a wheelchair, Dr. Agyapong came to campus to hold his classes and he continued to have a positive and profound impact on his students. He inspired us to be courageous; to maintain a positive spirit; and to always “Keep the Faith and Keep Moving Forward” – when we are faced with dire situations and life’s (unexpected) challenges. Dr. Agyapong was respected and loved by all who knew him. His presence will be missed; But his LEGACY IS SO STRONG- IT WILL ALWAYS LIVE ON! RIP………………………….WE LOVE YOU!!! “Auntie” Jackie {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{ A Memorial Service to celebrate his life and legacy will be held on Friday, September 12, 2014, in Lee Hall Auditorium, at 6:00 p.m. Dr. Agyapong’s Homegoing Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, September 27, 2014.
