Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee- A Great Man Friends, When I was a child, there was a wall in my locality on which it was written : “Jis Kashmir ke liye Balidan hue Mukherjee, wo Kashmir hamara hai” ( The very Kashmir for which Mukherjee laid down his life the same Kashmir belongs to India). I used to often wonder as to who was this Mukherjee? Much later, I realized that he was Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. He was the first Minister in Independent India to resign from the Cabinet of Nehru and Secondly, people would be surprised that at the mere age of 35 years, he was made the Vice Chancellor of Calcutta University because of his prolific knowledge. Friends, he resigned from Cabinet, in protest of insertion of Article 370 of the Constitution of India, which almost considers Jammu and Kashmir as distinct entity from entire India, thus directly or indirectly propagating Two Nation Theory of Mohammad Ali Jinnah. This is a big blot on Indian democracy. As a result of Article 370, Muslims remained in majority in Kashmir indulging in all anti- national activities. According to constitution, no outsiders can purchase land in Kashmir thus excluding whole of India from Kashmir. He protested against insertion of Article 370 but Nehru was adamant. Secondly, he resigned due to planned killing of Hindus in Bengal by Islamic groups for which Nehru did nothing. Mukherjee died mysteriously in Kashmir while he was there to protest against Article 370. It is said that Nehru and Sheikh Abdullah was behind his killing. Mukherjee used to maintain a dairy which contained all his secrets. After his death, Shyama’s Mother begged Nehru to give that diary to her but Nehru did not. She also requested him to conduct an inquiry but it did not take place. Many people believes that it was planned Murder of Mukherjee. But before he could die, he laid the foundation of Jansangha organization. Vande Matram
