Larry Mzhickteno Photo Mayetta, Kansas 07/13/13-Another Ladies night is in the books at Thunder Hill Speedway. They will have one more opportunity this year for Ladies Night on August 10th with free admission for all Ladies. The Conkwright family continues to prove that they are firmly placing Thunder Hill Speedway as the premier dirt track facility in the region with some of the best racing in the state. The Casey’s General Store IMCA Sport Compacts were the first group to attack Thunder Hill Speedway. Dan Canady used his front row outside starting position for all it was worth but could not hold off the hard charging Danie Ziegler. With no caution flags for this race, the checkered flag flew for Danie Ziegler where she stood proudly in the Pit Pass Liquor Victory Lane. Rounding out the top five finishers were Wade Heller, Dan Canady, Morgan Ziegler and Alex Boyden. The Kansas National Guard IMCA Hobby Stocks were up next and provided some of the best door to door action at Thunder Hill Speedway. This race went green to checker, caution free and the fans in attendance were treated to some spectacular racing action. Starting from the pole position Trevor Holt led early on but was unable to hold off Patrick Thyfault. This is Patrick’s first season in this race car, as his brother drove last year as Patrick was finishing up his stint in the United States Navy. Thyfault was looking for redemption, as last weekend the Thyfault team went through not one, but two transmissions, and was on the trailer before the event was finished. As the white flag fell, Patrick was in the lead with Troy Baumgartner glued to his back bumper. It was a dogfight to the finish. Patrick Thyfault makes it to the Pit Pass Liquor Victory Lane with Troy Baumgartner, Brian Stich, Kelly Pihl and Trevor Holt finishing out the top five. The Belleville Motor Sports IMCA Northern Sportmod division started 24 cars for the A feature Saturday evening. We just completed the mid-season points champs last week, but as of right now there is only a ten point spread between the top five of Clay hale, Kyle Olberding, Bryan Rigsby, Brian Neiberger and Adam Patch. This division would be one of the reasons to make a trip to Thunder Hill Speedway to watch some amazing racing action. Last week’s winner Dusty Leonard, led early as he used the advantage of starting on the front row outside. A caution on lap five bunched the field back up and Leonard had mechanical difficulties and was unable to continue. Curtis Dreasher took over the point and never, ever looked back. At the flagstand Curtis Dreasher gets credited for his first A-Feature win this season and of course his first trip to Thunder Hill Speedway’s Pit Pass Liquor Victory Lane. Curtis was followed by Bryan Rigsby, Brian Neiberger, Luke Stallbaumer, and Kyle Olberding. The next division up was the Heinen Repair Service IMCA stock cars. All of the division’s at Thunder Hill Speedway provide fantastic racing entertainment and these guys and gals are no different. There is only a seventeen point spread in this series. Marvin Griffith Jr. had the car to beat at the start and fought hard to stay out front but at about the halfway mark Jim Powell Jr. muscled his way to the front. Whatever Powell found on his racecar a couple of weeks ago is still working to his liking. For the second week in a row Powell races to the checkered flag first and stands victoriously in the Pit Pass Liquor Victory Lane. The hard charges of Matt Haid, Mike Nichols Greg Deters and Bob Arnold finish out the top five. Last up Saturday evening were The BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modifieds. This division brought a couple of new teams out to make an attempt to tame the 4/10ths of a mile at Thunder Hill Speedway. The eventual winner and the rest of the top five in this one started way deep in the field, which is a huge task at Thunder Hill. Allen Halderman, who started fifth row inside, took the white flag. Justin Becker was right on his back bumper. You couldn’t have put a piece of paper between these two machines. As these two raced out of turn four to the checkered flag, Justin looks to the inside but just can’t quite make the pass. The checkered flag and photo opportunity in the Pit Pass Liquor Victory Lane goes to Allen Halderman, chased down by Justin Becker, Jordy Nelson, Tom Charles and Jesse Richter. Racing resumes next Saturday night at The Xtreme Motor Sports Clash on the Hill with all five classes of IMCA race cars putting on the best Saturday night racing show in Northeast Kansas.
