Due to technical difficulties, we apologize for posting late our meditation last Sunday. May God continue to guide us in our penance this Lenten Season. ****** SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT Gen 12, 1-4a/Ps 33/2 Tim 1, 8b-10/Mt 17, 1-9 In the midst of disturbance around us and the advancement of modern times, listening has become a struggle. We are so busy attending to our needs that we cannot really find time to listen to the voice that lies within us. We are so preoccupied that we don’t find the leisure to listen to what God wants of us. Such situations keep us away from God, whose voice we can only hear in the silence of our hearts. If we listen to what the world wants from us, we may drift away and go astray. But listening to the word of God makes us more docile and aware to what He wants from us. Even if everything in us and around us is in chaos, if we remain still and spend a moment of silence to listen to God’s voice within us, then we cannot go wrong; we can go along our way. Jesus, in our Gospel today, invites us to listen to him. In an attempt to show the glory He is to fulfil in His resurrection, the Transfiguration event is an invitation to Peter, James and John to believe in Jesus. They must listen to Him, as the voice of His Father has affirmed in the vision. What’s the most important, then, is to entertain the voice of God that speaks to us and not what we want. At one point, the disciples almost listened to their own “voices”. They were so attracted to the vision that was being shown to us that Peter exclaimed, “It is good to be here.” But eventually, they were led to reality once the vision had finished. We are so much attracted to the worldly invitations that we bypass what is the most essential: to listen to the voice of God. We are so much attached to such invitations that we tend to say also, like Peter, “It is good to be here.” But if we recognize God working in us in our lives, then we can get away with these attachments and worldly invitations. We just need to listen to Him. Prayer, fasting and penance – these are helps for us to recognize the voice of God speaking in the different situations and event in our lives. And the Lenten Season provides us this opportunity to deepen more our relationship with Him so that, in the end, we could participate in the glory of His resurrection just as He had done in the vision of the Transfiguration. Let us listen, then, to the voice of God. PRAYER: Lord, help us to listen to you in the midst of distractions and disturbances around us. Amen.
