Durham Prison has won a gold medal in the national Six Book Challenge, after nearly 200 inmates and staff met the challenge of reading six books. In recognition of the prison’s success, best-selling author Martina Cole paid a visit on Wednesday and answered prisoners’ questions about her books and signed copies of her latest novel, THE GOOD LIFE, in the prison chapel. She said: “I’m proud to be associated with this scheme. I greatly enjoyed meeting new faces at workplaces and prisons earlier in the year and hearing first-hand what a difference the Six Book Challenge had made to participants and how much more confident they felt about reading.
