During Questions Time in Parliament today, the Minister for Education said that the recently revised OBE system is tailor made for PNG and will work well with the Free Education policy in improving education in PNG. The question of Landing Barges purchased for the people of South Fly being misused was raised by the Member for South Fly Aide Ganasi. Minister for Mining Byron Chan answered the South Fly MP’s question by saying that he would look at the data and gather the necessary information for a proper and informative answer to the questions. The Governor of Gulf Havila Kavo asked the Education Minister why students are being sent to Australian institutes for studies and seemingly dropping out or wasting time when there are many good establishments in the country that would be far less cheaper. The education Minister was absent from Parliament and so Prime Minister responded on his behalf stating that the issue of students not making use of the opportunity would be looked into. Samarai Muru Member Gordon Wesley asked why the sea cucumber ban has not been lifted and why his people are assaulted by authorities when they are caught sea cucumber gathering. This question was answered by the Minister for Fisheries Mao Zeming who told the Parliament that it was recommended by scientists from the National Fisheries Authority that Sea Cucumber grow very slowly and so must not be touched for the next 6 years.
