During the debate, some councillors argued removing the off-leash - TopicsExpress

During the debate, some councillors argued removing the off-leash dog park right away was not only possible, but the right thing to do. Others felt dog owners deserved to have a replacement park in place before the decommissioning. The latter argument won out. I have a few comments about this because this topic really shakes me. Im happy that the dog park is going to be decommissioned - though its long over-due and still shocking that a historic site was made an off-leash dog park to begin with. What upsets me is that even when agreeing to decommission the park, some of Halifaxs councillors - the people who are supposed to represent and advocate Halifax communities - are still so blind to the historical, deep-rooted institutionalized racism that exists toward Africville and the Black community in Halifax that they feel that dog owners deserve to have a replacement park. The dog owners who drive to Africville can drive somewhere else, cant they? Why are councillors more concerned about dogs than people? I reckon we should move the replacement park to another historic site in Nova Scotia since theres a huge portion of our community who dont get why literally and figuratively shitting on our history is a serious issue - so how about city hall? Its fenced in, right?
