E-rickshaws should be regularised: CM STATESMAN NEWS SERVICE New Delhi, 17 September Chief minister, Mrs Sheila Dikshit today chaired a high level meeting where she underlined the need of bringing the e-rickshaws under regulations so that no government agency including police could harass them. The rickshaw manufacturers and drivers requested the chief minister to allow such rickshaws to ply in colony roads. Expressing her views, Mrs Dikshit said that the rickshaws should be continued as they are eco-friendly and suitable to cover short distances. The meeting was attended by the transport minist, Mr. Ramakant Goswami, chief secretary, Mr DM Spolia, transport commissioner and representatives of e-rickshaw manufacturers and drivers. Mrs. Dikshit also constituted a committee comprising representatives from the manufacturers, drivers, Delhi Police and transport commissioner. The committee, headed by the chief secretary has been requested to submit its report within 15 days. Since, the e-rickshaw manufacturers claim that the rickshaws are powered with 250 Watt battery and does not fall under motorized vehicle category, hence, there is no need of any registration, insurance, driving license. The drivers stated that they are ready to ply under zone system with different colours and strictly only on colony roads without any excess number of passengers.
