EARLY BIRD NEWS WITH Orange Uganda: WORLD MARKS LABOUR DAY: Today is Labour Day alias International Workers Day celebrated annually on May 1. It is a national public holiday here in Uganda and in more than 80 other countries. Ntungamo district is hosting this year’s celebrations which will be held in Rubaare Town, under the theme “Working with the youth to tackle the unemployment problem in Uganda”. President Yoweri Museveni is expected to be the chief guest at the occasion. ANTI-TERRORISM STRATEGY: The East African Community member states have resolved to implement a common anti-terrorism strategy to combat terror following the terror attacks that have targeted Kenya. The decision to adopt the Regional Counter Terrorism Strategy was reached at the 12th East African Community Extra-Ordinary Heads of State Summit held in Arusha, Tanzania yesterday. REBECCA NALWANGA; THE NRM FLAG BEARER FOR LUWEERO DISTRICT WOMAN MP: NRM leaders in Luweero District have resolved to support Rebecca Nalwanga, as the NRM flag bearer for the District Woman MP by-election. Some sub-county chairpersons a week ago had rejected her saying she is unpopular, having lost to DP’s Brenda Nabukenya in 2011. The twist comes in after President Museveni requested the leaders to resolve their differences in order to shield the seat from being reclaimed by the opposition. STRANGE DISEASE CASES CONTINUES TO RISE: The strange disease in Moyo District has continued to affect more people yet health officials have so far failed to discover what the disease actually is. Four people have so far died of the disease identified with symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting. At least 88 people have been admitted to Obongi Health Centre IV in Obongi County with symptoms and with more cases continuing to be reported. WOMEN PROTEST: Hundreds of protesters mainly women, have marched through the Nigerian capital, Abuja, to press for the release of over 200 school girls who were abducted by militants two weeks ago. PARTY LEADER ARRESTED: Irish republican leader Gerry Adams, head of the Sinn Fein political party, was on Wednesday arrested over the murder of a woman in 1972, the party said in a statement.
