EID-UL-ADHA AND WISDOM OF SACRIFICE Eid-ul-Adha is not - TopicsExpress

EID-UL-ADHA AND WISDOM OF SACRIFICE Eid-ul-Adha is not mentioned in the Quran. The slaughter of a livestock animal is part of Hajj ceremony to be observed only in Makkah. The Slaughter of a livestock animal is not prescribed by the Quran to be observed by Muslims world-wide. In Islam, the sacrifice of an animal is legal from the morning of the 10th to sunset of the 12th Dhu l-Hijjah, the 12th lunar month of the Islamic calendar. On these days Muslims all over the world offer Qurbani which means a sacrifice/ slaughter of an animal on specific days for the pleasure of Allah (Wiki). The moral significance of the world sacrifice is to forego ones own needs and pleasures of others. To sacrifice to God, therefore, is to forego the satisfaction of ones own needs and comforts in the service of God. To sacrifice ones self or ones life is to devote all ones energy, time and possessions, and life itself if need be, in the pursuit of a cause. Millions of Muslims every year escape the injunction to sacrifice their own needs and comforts for the sake of community by conveniently transferring the responsibility on dumb animals who are made to pay with their lives for the omissions and commissions of those who agree to accommodate each other at the cost of a goat or a sheep, a cow or a camel ! - Dr. Hashim Amir-Ali
