EL CHAY - THE LIVING GOD Duke, my male Doberman, loved to - TopicsExpress

EL CHAY - THE LIVING GOD Duke, my male Doberman, loved to have me throw a tennis ball so he could retrieve it. The game was fun for both of us until the ball was so soggy with dog slobber that I hated to touch it. Also, I tired out long before the dog did. There used to be a pitiful video on CNN which showed a dog dropping a stick in front of a bronze statue of a man sitting on a bench. The dog laid the stick at the statues feet, in its lap, on its hands, but there was no response from the statue. The dog looked so lonely and dejected. One of the names in Praying The Names of God is El Chay - the Living God. Its such a basic Christian belief that we sometimes take it for granted. Idols of wood or stone are made by human hands and, like the statue the poor dog was trying to get to play catch with him, idols cannot respond to the needs of people. In 2 Kings, Hezekiah takes a threatening letter he received from Sennacherib to the temple and spreads it out before God and asks Him to read it. The action of Hezekiah was a display of his faith in El Chay, the Living God who sees and hears. Our God still lives and He still sees and hears His people. And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD God of Israel, which dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth. LORD, bow down thine ear, and hear: open, LORD, thine eyes and see: and hear the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent him to reproach the living God (2 Kings 19:15-16). Love, Doris
