ELECTRIC GENERATORS ARE KILLERS. I WONDER HOW MANY SIERRA LEONEANS - TopicsExpress

ELECTRIC GENERATORS ARE KILLERS. I WONDER HOW MANY SIERRA LEONEANS ARE AWARE OF THIS. More and more the so called progress in Sierra Leone benefits the very wealthiest among her citizens while the poor and almost poor are left to fend for themselves. However there is one area where even the wealthiest among us will suffer dire consequences.......man-made pollution created by the many generators in the city. The new roads and high speed internet were meant to attract outside investors which will benefit the government and the wealthy, but how are the investors going to power their computers when there is no consistent available power in Freetown and most of the country? Are they going to bring in massive generators like the nasty, noisy and pollution creating generator the American Embassy had at Cotton Tree? While the entire world is concerned about pollution and its damage to the environment and health of people, third world countries like Sierra Leone are doing nothing about it. I know that our problems far exceed what we can handle at the present, which probably puts pollution, sanitation and environmental concerns way down the list, but even as a practical rational reason, shouldnt the primary infrastructure renewal be the complete and dogged determination to bring power to Freetown, the capital city? I believe a country with affordable and consistent power will do more to attract new investors than all the new roads built so far. Wealthy people can all have huge generators and the money to run them, in the mean time the poor and ordinary people still have to suffer. The deadly carbon monoxide emission put out by all those tens of thousands of generators will someday create a huge health epidemic in a country where pollution and sanitation are already a huge challenge. As I said in my opening, I wonder if the ministry of health is advising the public about the dangers of these generators especially in a city as small as Freetown.
