EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: Administrative Assistant/Genesee STEM Academy, FLINT, MI JOB DESCRIPTION Genesee STEM Academy (GSTEMA) offers a unique educational opportunity for its students, community, and staff in an urban environment. With a curriculum grounded in STEM related studies, GSTEMA’s mission is cultivating students’ passion for lifelong learning, yearning for academic excellence, and desire to become leaders in STEM related fields. GSTEMA offers an extended academic year of 197 instructional days and supports staff growth with 14 days dedicated to professional development. The administrative assistant fulfills receptionist duties and provides administrative support to the school leader and building staff. Responsibilities: -Understands, accepts, and abides by the school’s philosophy and mission statement in all his/her school activities -Maintains confidentiality concerning all student information and any professional matters -Answers incoming calls on the office main line; handles inquires and re-directs calls appropriately. Takes messages and relays necessary information. -Communicates in a positive and effective manner with staff, students, parents and/or visitors -Initiates outgoing calls as required -Collects and distributes incoming mail -Greets all guests, ensures they are comfortable while advising appropriate staff that guest is waiting. Escorts guests to various activities within the building as needed. -Handles communication by telephone, fax and email. -Responsible for photocopying and all filing -Maintains records, logs, databases -Records minutes of meetings when requested by the school leader and distributes and files same -Develops and maintains a binder of current administrative procedures Helps to keep the office and waiting areas neat -Assists with the registration of new students and handles administrative tasks related to student enrollment process -Maintains accurate attendance records -All other tasks required for the smooth and efficient running of the office -Operates, cleans, and maintains computer equipment -Assists with data audits as needed -Performs all other job duties as required by school leader or designee JOB REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma or equivalents with a minimum of 2 years experience in a school setting is required; excellent oral and written communication skills; proficient in computer applications, including MS Word, Excel, and Power Point; effective organizational skills with the ability to perform multiple tasks; satisfactory completion of background check and drug testing. Physical ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
