EMPLOYMENT VACANCY Part-time Food and Café Officer 15 hours per week (Salary £19,671 per annum pro rata), regular weekend work required on a rota basis. Bill Quay Community Farm is a working farm and visitor attraction on the outskirts of Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. The farm sits under the stewardship of Bill Quay Community Farm Association, a charity which was awarded the farms lease from Gateshead Council in July 2013. The Food and Cafe Officer role involves developing and delivering an outstanding cafe, with good community links and high ethical standards, contributing to the farm’s visitor experience. In partnership with the CEO and other team members, and in line with Farm to Fork principles, the successful candidate will develop opportunities for visitors and café users to increase their knowledge of cookery skills, food and health knowledge and encourage wellbeing. You will be able to demonstrate excellent customer service, food preparation, cooking and presentation skills. You will also be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of food issues and ethics as well as an ability to update, maintain and develop policy. You will need to demonstrate experience in a hospitality environment, experience of managing stock (minimising wastage and managing costs), hold an intermediate Food Hygiene qualification, have experience of menu planning and design, and experience of monitoring quality standards. Duties include: • Develop and manage the café so that it maximises its potential to provide a range of quality meals and snacks and to generate revenue for the Association • To plan daily and weekly menus in line with ethical sourcing, seasonality, demand and healthy eating, with support from the cafe team • To prepare, cook and serve hot and cold meals to customers ensuring all food is prepared to high standards • Set a high standard of customer service and interact with customers, taking orders, serving drinks, meals and snacks • Maintain a safe, clean and hygienic environment in the kitchen and café to high standards and to maintain Safer Food Better Business • Develop and implement an ethical sourcing policy, identifying suitable suppliers, maintaining stock levels and ordering new supplies as required. • Support community projects and activities at the farm, such as public events, activities and classes, visitor attractions, wellbeing activities • Be responsible for the financial health of the Café, and provide regular monitoring information. • To be part of the budget preparations and take responsibility for monitoring the catering aspects of the Association budget ensuring that all café resources are maximised • Contribute to funding applications as required • Work collaboratively with internal and external partners to ensure the success of programmes To request an application pack for the above position please email [email protected] For information about our organisation visit: billquayfarm.org.uk The closing date for applications is midnight on Sunday 1st June
