ENROLLMENT GROWS A STUNNING 13% The Cagayan State University Carig Campus recorded a better-than-expected enrollment growth of 13.35 percent, boosting its efforts to attract more Cagayanos to join the university. In its latest enrollment update, the campus registrar’s office reported that this semester the campus enrolled 10,087 students in its nine colleges: Graduate School (GS), College Arts and Sciences (CAS), College of Engineering (COE), College of Human Kinetics (CHK), College of Information and Computing Science (CICS), College of Medicine and Surgery (CMS), College of Public Administration (CPAd), College of Industrial Technology (CIT), and College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). The data obtained from Mr. Rey Taguibao, the campus registrar’s office in-charge, showed a difference of 1,188 from last year’s 8,899 recorded during the same period. Of the total number of students, CICS with BS Information Technology as the most subscribed program (2,597) raked the highest figure: 3, 033. Following it is COE with 1,992 students, a figure close to CIT’s 1,951. CAS landed on the fourth spot when it enlisted 1,498 enrollees this semester, while CHK, which celebrated its 8th anniversary on July 11, stayed on the fifth place, registering 762 in its three board-course programs. With 326 students, CMS came sixth followed by CPAd (273), CVM (207), and GS (36), the seventh, eight and nine placers, respectively. The data also showed that nine cross-enrollees from the colleges of business entrepreneurship and accountancy, teacher education and allied health sciences confirmed enrollment this semester. Likewise, the data indicated that of the total enrollees, 5,600 students are male and 4,487 are female. Freshmen make up the biggest chunk of the population with 3,836. Tailing them are the sophomores (2,440), juniors (1,818), seniors (1,743), 5th year students (203), and sixth year students (10), in that order. Dr. Arthur G. Ibanez, campus executive officer of CSU Carig, attributed this feat to the expanded school-to-school campaign program of the campus. “We intensified our campaign this year, making sure that we reached out even to the remotest high schools in the province of Cagayan,” he said. He said, aside from the school campaign which is spearheaded by the campus guidance office, the improved facilities is also seen to have contributed much to this accomplishment. The campus head raved about this growth, which, according to him can also be credited to the competence of the professors and to the zero tuition fee policy of the university, but he said “we need to sustain this and continue to make our services better to be able to invite more students.” By the Campus Communications Office
