ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST II Class Code – 9252 OPENING DATE: August 9, 2013 CLOSING DATE: August 22, 2013 SALARY: Range 21 ($32,656.00 – $ 44,033.60 /annually) LOCATION: Augusta POSITION TYPE: Permanent Full Time POSITION NUMBER: 08310-1289 ________________________________________ The Department of Environmental Protection, Licensing Unit of the Division of Land Resource Regulation, has an Environmental Specialist II vacancy in Augusta. BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This position is responsible for: Becoming proficient in knowledge of the Natural Resources Protection Act, Site Location of Development Act, Stormwater Management Law; Conducting site visits, field determinations, complaint response, and compliance inspections; resolving violations of laws and permits through administrative consent agreements and serve as expert witness for court cases; providing technical and regulatory assistance to the general public and regulated community; participate/present information at training opportunities for state agencies, municipalities, and other interested groups such as lake associations; Arranging and meeting applicants and their representatives in pre-application and pre-submission meetings to provide regulatory guidance; Reviewing and evaluating applications and writing Department decisions within statutory time limits; Coordinating project reviews, meetings, and contacts with other Department staff, state, federal, and municipal officials, applicants, and consultants; On-call. Preference will be given to candidates with skills and/or experience in: Experience/knowledge of land use statutes, including but not limited to, the Site Location of Development Law, Natural Resources Protection Law, Stormwater Law, and other similar state/federal statutes or municipal ordinances. Experience with or knowledge of the techniques involved in the identification of natural resources such as wetlands, streams or wildlife habitats. Experience managing the review of environmental license applications with federal, state or local authorities. GIS/other computer skills dealing with environmental resources. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelors Degree from an accredited educational institution which includes 15 credit hours of science or engineering courses -OR- a four (4) year combination of education and experience in an environmental science or related area.
