EVERYONE ON YOUTUBE...PLEASE READ THIS - If you are frustrated with the new layout and the forced integration of google +... this may help. 1. Cant reply to comments older than 7 days. Try writing a fresh comment but +TheirName so its a direct reply. The + in front of the persons name notifies them as mentioned. If you wouldnt rather it be a Public discussion and just a reply to them, then click the X on Public at the bottom of your comment box before posting it to remove it, leaving only the person you +Mentioned 2. Youtube thread Notifications in Email Since the new comment system is really just tied to Google+, it would stand to reason that your email settings for notifications are now available here: https://google/settings/plus This will likely be the center of the conversation Dashboard for all Google services going forward, and how to manage your cross-service identity. If you havent set it up yet, then its probably a good idea to familiarize yourself. 3. I Dont Want Google+ If you use literally any Google service that requires a login, you already have a Google+ page. Youtube, Blogger, Gmail, Picasa, Play, Drive, you name it... if you have any of that at all, then its the same exact login for all of them. When you log into one of them, you are logged into all of them. Now, whether or not you have actually set any of the other services up or not is up to you. However, its highly suggested that you (at the very least) set up your Google+ page because it really is the most important piece of the system - Its your Identity, and its how you represent yourself across all of the Google services and conversations . As for using fake names and such as if youre going to make a throw-away account, then youre likely to get flagged and thus suspending access to any service connected to that account. So you definitely are running a risk - but thats up to you. (Sorry Durianrider, no more trolling with fictitious accounts) The entire point of Google+ is less about a Social Media network and more about building an authentic cross-service identity. So if youre gaming the system, or using fake names, then you might end up at the bottom of the comment threads by default because your identity carries no weight or relevance (so its beneficial to build a public reputation). youtu.be/DLjpaOH1V14
