EXCEPTIONAL LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL MONDAY, 6TH OCTOBER, 2014 THE HOPE OF THE GOSPEL - PASTOR OSE IMIEMOHON Colossians 1:23 (Amplified Bible) 23 “[And this He will do] provided that you continue to stay with and in the faith [in Christ], well-grounded and settled and steadfast, not shifting or moving away from the hope [which rests on and is inspired by] the glad tidings (the Gospel)…” The Bible acknowledges two kinds of hope: the Human hope and the hope of the Gospel. The human hope is simply an expectation that is based on human performances, favorable conditions or circumstances; while the hope of the gospel is a supernatural and joyful expectation of God’s goodness that is independent of any human action or circumstance. I want you to note that the finished work of redemption is the reason for the hope of the gospel and by extension, the reason for your expectation. As a believer, you are either operating in human hope or in the hope of the gospel. There is no neutral position.Hope is a very important factor for the application of faith. It is the soil on which faith grows. It is intangible, but faith makes it tangible. The hope of the gospel derives its strength from the free access into the presence of God. This access is purchased for every child of God by the blood of Jesus Christ (Heb.10:19). The Amplified Bible version of Hebrews 6:19-20 clearly explains the hope of the gospel. It says: [Now] we have this [hope] as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul [it cannot slip and it cannot break down under whoever steps out upon it—a hope] that reaches farther and enters into [the very certainty of the Presence] within the veil, where Jesus has entered in for us [in advance], a Forerunner having become a High Priest forever after the order (with the rank) of Melchizedek. The value of this hope lies in its application. Abraham and Sarah applied this truth and they overcame the oppressive yoke of barrenness with the force of the living hope (Rom. 4:18-21). So, when the doctor’s report clearly states that you have a low sperm count, damaged fallopian tubes or any other fact within human reason to justify the reason you cannot bear a child or manifest the promises of God in your life; always remember that you have a connection to a hope that is beyond any human reason. This hope is your reason for expecting God’s Goodness. It guarantees your future when human reasoning or logic says there is no future. Therefore, apply this truth by planting your confidence in God on the soil of the hope of the gospel and watch it yield fruits. PRAYER Lord, help me to stay focused on the hope of the gospel with no form of distraction. Amen!!!! MEDITATE ON: Romans 4:18-21 who, contrary to [HUMAN] hope, in [GOSPEL]hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, So shall your descendants be. [19] And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarahs womb. [20] He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, [21] and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.
