EXERCISE OF THE DAY-new series! Before doing any exercise consult with your physician. If you find any movement painful, stop. SUPPORTED HIP ABDUCTION Equipment: Sturdy chair, Ankle weights Major Muscles: Psoas Minor Muscles: Gluteus Minimus Repetitions: 8 to 15 Sets: 1 to 3 Beginning Position: Stand behind a sturdy chair with your feet hip-width apart. Contract your abdominals towards your spine. Motion: Holding onto the chair for balance, slowly lift one leg to the side. The leg should be 6-12 inches off the floor depending on your range of movement. Hold for one second and return to starting position. Use ankle weights to increase difficulty. Key Points: Keep the back straight; don’t allow it to bend with the movement. Look to feel the movement in the side of your hip. Breathing: Exhale as you lift the leg, inhale as you lower it.
