Each Thursday at noon in Jerusalem, Sabeel holds a Communion - TopicsExpress

Each Thursday at noon in Jerusalem, Sabeel holds a Communion service that is open to the community. It is a time to join together to discuss how the scriptures apply to our lives today, to pray for the needs of this region and our world and to share the Eucharist. Starting in the Pacific Islands, passing through Asia, Africa, Palestine, Europe, the Americas and on around the globe, we pray for peace with justice. Sabeel Wave of Prayer, May 29, 2014 Lord, this past weekend witnessed an historic visit to the Holy Land by His Holiness Pope Francis that was steeped in spiritual and political significance for this suffering region. We lift our gratitude for his words of solidarity, his recognition of injustices, and his pleas for a peaceful resolution of a conflict that is no longer acceptable. We pray, merciful God, that his upcoming meeting with Palestinian and Israeli presidents at the Vatican will take hold of the momentum inspired by his visit and bring forth the first steps of a lasting and just peace in this land. Lord in your mercy… God of mercy, last week outside Bethlehem, the Israeli army destroyed 1500 fruit trees belonging to the Nassar family, known for their family farm and bridge-building organization, the Tent of Nations. We condemn this grave injustice, especially while the Nassar family is seeking legal recognition of its ownership of the land, and we pray for mercy and justice not only for the Nassar family but for the many families in Palestine who are suffering from loss of land. Lord in your mercy… Students across Palestine and Israel finish their school year soon, sitting for final exams and celebrating graduations. Lord, please give these students the clarity of mind to perform well on their tests, relieve them of anxiety about school and future plans, and let the summer holiday be a welcome rest. Lord in your mercy… We continue praying for a smooth transition in the Sabeel office, especially as programs and activities continue this week, including a community forum with the Sabeel community. Please bless the staff of the Jerusalem and Nazareth offices, and empower all of our Friends of Sabeel to continue working for justice in Palestine. Lord in your mercy… Lord, we pray alongside the World Council of Churches for the countries of Botswana and Zimbabwe. Lord in your mercy…
