Each year on Martin Luther King, Jr., Day, people across the country come together for a day of service. #MLKDay2015 This year, Big Thicket National Preserve hosted 86 volunteers who worked to restore a vanishing ecosystem by planting approximately 10,000 longleaf pine seedlings. This is the 5th year in a row that the preserve has sponsored a longleaf pine planting event on this day. Special thanks go to the #BigThicketAssociation, the National Parks Conservation Association #NationalParks, the #StudentConservationAssociation, many local garden club members, and all the individual citizen participants for their commitment to the preservation and restoration of the Big Thicket ecology.
