Earlier this week, Limbaugh and Bernie Goldberg said that the shoe being thrown at Hillary was staged in order to make her look more presidential. Yesterday, Steve Malzberg said that Chelsea Clintons pregnancy was timed to benefit Hillarys 2016 presidential campaign. This is how garden-variety unselfaware types register resentment. As a simple defense mechanism, they attach intentionality and deliberateness (if not all-out strategizing) to any event which might be interpreted as beneficial for the other side. By doing this, they can then tell themselves that whats happening is manufactured, contrived, somehow not real or representative of the truth, and certainly not the sympathetic outcome of mere happenstance. This way they are spared paying attention to the truth which is this: that sometimes certain things happen around people, including Hillary Clinton, which really defy being politicized, and which remind the voting public that she is, after all, a human being. And, of course, seeing Hillary as a mere human being who doesnt like things thrown at her, and who is susceptible to the common sympathies that come from the news that shes going to be a grandmother? Well, that destroys the Shes Our Enemy And Nothing More Narrative. What they really mean when they say that Hillary engineered the shoe throwing, or that Chelsea timed her pregnancy for an election year, is that they are unconsciously aware, and fearful, that such events actually WILL influence Hillarys presidential bid, by at least making people pay the most average, civil, humane kind of sympathetic attention to her, even though she had nothing to do with manufacturing the events. With this in mind, its easy to see how in certain cases, full-blown paranoia can be understood as a particularly insecure persons need to demonize simple human curiosity by anticipating the resentful advent of the benefits such curiosity can bestow on people of different persuasions. In this way, paranoiacs only ever manage to predict what they already unconsciously know to be the case.
