East End Dilemma (rumor-building of an incinerator) Tune: The Wearin of the Green Oh Barney dear and did you hear The news thats spreading round Sure, and if its true. before theyre through Well all be underground In five points fair therell be despair If this monstrous thing prevails And on Gospel Hill Well pierce the air with groans and banshee wails Oh Irelands had her troubles in her struggle to be free The black and tans were bad enough But, this is worse you see Theres a fog and smog and poison gas And smoke as black as night Why from Giants Despair, It looks as though East End is out of sight The smell is so bad at # 8 The Firemen never sleep And if you saw the Monday was Tis enough to make you weep But Barney soon the day must come When the civic league will call And we will rise in our flag of green To rally one and all If city hall wont move the thing we have another plan Well move East End piece by piece Right back to Ireland Written by Jack McKeown for a play @ Holy Saviour Church - Wilkes-Barre in the 1950s. It was rumored that a new incinerator was to be built @ Morgan. B. Williams Park. That was the basis for the whole play.
