Easter Sunday March 29th was rained out at Paragon so the Easter opening weekend would be on April 5th ,1970 ..On April 5th , 1970 Larry Miller Flipped the Pete Brewer #14 down the front straightaway . This crash became one for the ages and is talked about to this day . This was the crash that caused the baby rabbits that was nesting in a hole beneath the poles that protected the old infield tower and flag stand to scatter every where on the race track so that was a added attraction. Every Spring there after there was a rabbit check around every pole . It took longer to gather up the baby rabbits than it did to clean up the crash . Legend has it Announcer Lee Vickery left the tower with the Mic .and Mic cord in his hand. This was the crash that got the ball rolling to put in a new tower on the hill the tower that is still there today . Also there were some track safety issues that Edd and Eddie Sheppard started working on the following Monday morning for one there was another row of boards added to the old wood catch fence and boards were put on the top of the poles as well . 1970 would be the last year of the infield tower and flag stand thanks to Larry Miller ..Larry and the tower workers all got off lucky on this day and I think we all new it . Larry Miller would also come back again on opening weekend on May 3rd ,1975 and again have a terrible crash but on the back straightaway..Have a Great Easter Weekend everyone ..Hope you all get to a race soon
