Ebola: Delta State Govt Distributes Test Kits To Schools By Sunday Egede/ Josaiah Ogoegbunem AS part of effort aimed at checkmating any possible outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in primary and secondary schools in Delta State, the state government, yesterday, distributed Infra-Red Thermometers to Chief Inspectors of Education (CIEs) in the 25 local government areas of the state for onward distribution to public primary and secondary schools. The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare, who distributed the Infra-Red Thermometers to the CIEs said that the government was irrevocably committed towards ensuring that schools in the state are free from ebola disease. Muoboghare said that the distribution of the test kits (Infra-Red Thermometers) was the beginning of the good things that would come later, adding that the state government would sustain its efforts aimed at ensuring that every school in the state gets necessary things needed to keep the disease at bay in schools in particular and the entire state at large. According to him, good personal hygiene at the home front is very vital in the fight against EVD, pointing out that “it would be meaningless to put measures in place in schools to check EVD without a corresponding improvement in our personal hygiene at home”. While saying that private schools in the state were doing well through measures that they have instituted in checking EVD, the Commissioner equally commended Principals and Head Teachers in the state for their commitment towards ensuring that schools in the state are EVD free. “The way we have been managing the situation to eliminate EVD is very encouraging”, Muoboghare said, adding that Deltans should shun the consumption of bush meat for now, just as he stressed the need for them (Deltans) to be patriotic. In his remarks during the distribution, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT, Delta State), Comrade Jonathan Jemirieyigbe, applauded the state government for making the Infra-Red Thermometers available for schools, adding that the NUT was quite hopeful that other materials needed for the control of Ebola Virus Disease would be provided in schools.
