Ebola + Poison = Disaster Sierra Leoneans are still grappling - TopicsExpress

Ebola + Poison = Disaster Sierra Leoneans are still grappling with the seeming unending challenges, myths and fears surrounding the deadly ebola outbreak ravaging the country. As if ebola in itself has not taken enough lives already, news making the rounds that certain individuals are embarked on poisoning water in various parts across the country is alarming altogether. What is happening to our beloved country; one is tempted to ask? Sadly however, the answer to that question and many other worrying concerns are not forthcoming. Everybody seems to be in the dark, though suspicions are rife that certain individuals and institutions have full knowledge about this outbreak. While we cannot exactly identify these individuals and/or institutions, we take solace that posterity will expose all that is in the dark sooner or later. There has been no let up in the suicide mission of ebola. While hundreds are being infected on frequent intervals, dozens are dying like fowls. Even the millions of dollars being pumped into the fight, accompanied by hundreds of experts, have recorded little or no impact in the worrisome trend of infections and deaths. There is still not enough treatment and holding centers as the sick are still being transported from various parts of the country to the few holding and treatment centers. The least talked about some of the rotten ambulances procured to aid the ebola battle the better. In summary, we are still miles and miles away from wining this battle. In the midst of this unprecedented and extraordinary challenge, the least the citizens expect is a venture aimed at destroying more lives than the harm already being caused by deadly ebola. We just hope that news making the rounds that attempts or actual moves have been made by unidentified individuals to poison water in Waterloo and Makeni is false. How can people be so wicked to the extent of wanting to or actually putting poison in drinking and general purpose water? What would someone want to achieve by doing this ungodly act? Could this be an indication that people are happy that their fellow Sierra Leoneans are dying in their numbers? Could this mean that people want to make more money out of the ebola outbreak to the extent of poisoning people to death so donors will think the deaths are ebola related? It is unthinkable that people will undertake such venture to score political points; so we will resist the urge to think in that direction. But could it be also true that people in high places would have a hand in this? This is really alarming and scary to say the least. As we try to make sense out of this looming catastrophe, we should not be wary of the fact that Sierra Leoneans are very good at spreading fake news and rumors. We must not rush to conclude that people are actually poisoning water until credible investigations ascertain the truth. If this is true, then Sierra Leone and Sierra Leoneans is on a disastrous time bomb. A huge percentage of Sierra Leoneans cannot afford distilled water and largely depend on tap and well water for drinking and general purposes like bathing and laundering. It would therefore spell catastrophe if people decide to extend their wickedness to poisoning the sources of these water. It will not only pose a threat to lives of millions of Sierra Leones, but it will further mean a serious threat to the country’s national existence. The authorities are therefore urged to properly investigate this poisoning issue and bring to book whoever is found wanton. Finally, we want to appeal to Sierra Leoneans that no money or cause is worth the lives of fellow Sierra Leoneans. Undertaking ventures that will claim lives and properties is therefore not only unpatriotic but ungodly. God bless Sierra Leone.
