At Houghton George Brown, Billy Roberts, John Jones and Tommy Jopling sneaked a last end low scoring 15-14 win over John Kelso while Bobby Usher, George Simpson, Terry Todd and Peter Thomson were lying game on the last end but a rebounding jack saw them having to settle for a 14-14 draw against A.Harrison. The remaining rink of Pat Collins, Richie Jobling, Frankie Froud and Ray Robinson ‘s fate was ultimately settled on the 18th end as Shield’s Alan Lawton created a eight shot turn around which in the overall game turned out to be the difference, Lawton won 21-14.
