Edge Ice Center Hosting Invitational Figure Skating Competition – Attracts Record 150 Skaters. The City of Owensboro’s Edge Ice Center will be hosting the 3rd Annual “Living on the Edge” Team Figure Skating Competition, January 31 through February 2. The event is part of the Ice Skating Institute of America’s District 7 Competition Series. The “Living on the Edge” competition has grown tremendously since its first year in 2012, this year bringing in a record 150 skaters, representing 11 ice arenas from PA, KY, IL, IN, OH, AL, and TN. Economic impact of the event is estimated at $104,000. The competition will start at 7:15 p.m. Friday, January 31, run throughout the day and evening on Saturday, and conclude Sunday by 4 p.m. The competition schedule is available at owensboroparks.org. Members of the Owensboro Figure Skating Team will be competing and spectators are welcome; there are no admission fees. Due to the competition schedule, all public skating sessions for the weekend (January 31-February 2) are cancelled. Public skating sessions will resume Thursday, February 6 at 6 p.m. The Edge Ice Center is located at 1400 Hickman Avenue, next to the Owensboro Sportscenter.
