Edith Widder: How we found the giant squid. I saw this short TED talk due to the wonderful Heidi Anne Morris posting it on G+. I found it fascinating, informative, intriguing and strangely moving all at the same time. Its a big, wide world out there folks. Stories and legends become things of ridicule. UFOs, Yetis, Big Foot, Loch Ness Monster etc have all been the butt of many jokes and have caused people to treat others in a demeaning manner. Just because we cant prove it doesnt mean it doesnt exist, before ridicule is thrown about with abandon you need to be able to prove it doesnt exist and that is very hard to do. Ill leave the last word to Nick Pope. He used to run the British Governments UFO Project investigating reports of UFO sightings. Nick Pope did not share the MoDs view that conventional explanations could be found for all UFO sightings so he resigned. In his book tilted Open Skies, Closed Minds he said this A mind is like a parachute, it works best when its open!.
